NONONO – Down Under
Michael Hayes | On 11, May 2013
Not since the Destiny’s Child days has the phrase “No, No, No” meant anything to me (besides when reacting to my monthly cell phone bill). This time I have nothing but positive thoughts to associate with NONONO: a Stockholm-based trio whose music has made me especially thankful for the Internet and international communications.
NONONO is a newborn collaboration that began when Tilt Songs producers Astma & Rockwell teamed up with singer/songwriter Stina Wappling last spring. In just six month’s time, this group has garnered nearly 200,000 SoundCloud plays with a mere four songs. Not bad for a group that just formed in 2012… I mean, areyoufreakingkiddingme?
Down Under is nothing short of stunning with soothing vocals that could, in the proper circumstance, make a grown man cry. Wappling’s voice alone makes this track a work of art, but the production beneath it is both emotionally invoking and technically pristine. I’m not sure what sound these guys hear Down Under, but the one I’m hearing needs to stick around.
